USC Charlotte Alumni Club
CHARLOTTE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND
In 1993 the USC Educational Foundation and Charlotte Area Alumni agreed to establish a permanently endowed Charlotte Student Scholarship Fund in The University of South Carolina Educational Foundation. Initially the goal was to maintain at least $10,000 in the fund so that the income generated would allow us to award a $500 scholarship to an entering freshman or to a currently enrolled upperclassman from the Charlotte area. Since then several deserving students have taken advantage of this scholarship, which also includes a substantial reduction in out-of-state tuition costs. The USC Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee awards the scholarship and that committee sets the criteria for eligibility.
During the past several of years we have made substantial strides towards raising the fund amount to allow the awarding of additional scholarships. We currently have in excess of $40,000 in the fund and four scholarships are awarded – one for each $10,000 addition to the fund. Our policy has been to award a scholarship to a freshman who, as long as he/she maintains an acceptable GPR and is a model student, will receive the scholarship for all four years. When the Fund reaches $50,000 we will be able to award an additional scholarship and so on.
In addition to individual contributions, corporate matching gifts for Gamecock Club members may be earmarked for the Fund. Recently, a major source for growing the Fund has been the Charlotte Gamecock Club Golf Tournament that has provided over $6,000 during the past couple of years.
If you wish to contribute to our fund, please contact me and I will provide you with the appropriate forms for doing so. Thank you for helping us as we reach more of the youth in the Charlotte area.
